Tackling crime together event

HammersmithLondon were recently proud to support and facilitate an event aimed at making Hammersmith a tougher place for criminals to operate. The Hammersmith Broadway Safer Neighbourhood Team and HammersmithLondon worked together to put on a presentation at the Novotel Hotel attended by many local businesses as well as the police and Home Office. The presentation was to establish interest in creating new initiatives to ‘design out crime’ and target harden the area, making it less attractive to the criminals and driving them away.

Professor Lorraine Gamman from Design Against Crime also attended for her experience in creating designs that prevent crime without having a negative effect on the individuals surroundings. Ideas such as cashpoint safe zones, handbag protectors, secure shopping devices and many others were shown to attendees with the vision that crime could be easily prevented with innovative ideas. The event was a success and the SNT and BID will be following up to see if the ideas presented can be implemented and to have Hammersmith take the lead in designing out crime in London. The event was also featured in recent editions of the Hammersmith Gazette and the Fulham Chronicle.
