Public Urged to Turn Out in Force as Committee Decides King Street's Future.

"Last chance to show the council the real strength of feeling in the community"

Save Our Skyline, the campaigners fighting plans for the redevelopment of the western end of King Street, are urging local people to turn out in force and show their support at a planning applications committee meeting being held at Latymer Upper School, 237 King Street on Wednesday November 30 at 7pm.

The campaigners point out that this is the last chance for local people to show the council the real strength of feeling in the community towards what they describe as "this misconceived proposal which will destroy the character of Furnival Gardens with the earthworks of the bridge over the A4, scar river views with its 15 storey tower, demolish the cinema with no replacement, force the blind residents of the Pocklington housing to move elsewhere, and offers no affordable housing".

Members of the audience will not be able to speak at the meeting. However, a packed hall will show the Council that they are under the spotlight, and indicate the importance and sensitivity of the project to the Greater London Authority and the Secretary of State.

Despite receiving well over 1,000 comments on the project from members of the public plus many groups and associations, the council looks set to rubber stamp the plans by King Street Developments, a joint venture between Grainger plc and Helical Bar plc.
