Public praise the 'I Love Hammersmith'
Summer Festival

In June 2010 HammersmithLondon launched our Summer programme of events, which proved to be fun, interactive and entertaining for all. The Urban Beach in Lyric Square complete with traditional seaside deckchairs and a 20ft large screen added to the carnival atmosphere.

Throughout the months of June, July and August, we hope you managed to take advantage of and enjoyed a host of entertainment ranging from musical performances, circus acts, live screenings of Wimbledon tennis, street performers and exclusive big screen film nights. Live screenings of Wimbledon entertained visitors and employees alike whilst giving people the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy the sunshine. Early evening and weekend screenings of a number of popular films, including Disney's 'Alice in Wonderland', the fun smash hit 'Mamma Mia' and Cameron's 'Avatar', also entertained young and old alike in the balmy summer evenings.

Arun Sondhi, Executive Director of HammersmithLondon commented, "HammersmithLondon is keen to support the local business community and enhance the neighbourhood by providing entertainment throughout the Summer. The concept underpinning the Urban Beach is simple; we want the space surrounding Lyric Square to be a thriving and vibrant space for residents, visitors and local businesses. This is a perfect way to showcase our beautiful area and remind visitors that West London is a centre for creativity and enterprise".

The public response to this year's 'I Love Hammersmith' Summer Festival was overwhelmingly positive. From a recent survey 90% of people said they thoroughly enjoyed the events organized over the summer and 89% of those indicated that they had either already spent money in the local vicinity or were planning to do so. One local resident commented "Hammersmith sometimes seems to lack a community heart, but the events organised over the summer certainly transformed the square and gave it a much more localised feel".

The BID Team are now looking forward to the upcoming Christmas festivities and it is hoped that the Christmas Grotto, food market and bespoke Christmas lighting will prove just as popular!
