Policing the streets of Hammermsmith

The new shift pattern of the Hammersmith Safer Neighbourhood Team has now started along with the BIDs new security team structure. The BID no longer has Police Community Support Officers and has instead been able to acquire four new police constables to patrol the BID area.
The BID will still be working with the PCSOs because of their knowledge and experience of the area, but the BID will be funding Police Constables as part of a new scheme aimed at getting more uniformed officer on the street. The PCs cost £100,000 for four, giving the BID a saving of £20,000 on our previous years security budget.
There have also been regular meetings with the new Inspector for the area and there are many new plans for upcoming initiatives that will bring down crime and Total Notifiable Offences (TNOs) for the BID area. One operation took place last week where the SNT were deployed outside Kings Mall and invited shoppers to be scanned with handheld metal detector wands.
The operation was well received by shoppers and no knives were recovered, indicating that the BID area is a safe shopping environment to visit.
