Peppa Pig brings home the bacon
There was a right royal rumpus in Kings Mall on Saturday, as childrens TV starlet, Peppa Pig, came to switch on the Christmas tree lights.
Kings Mall retailers couldnt believe their eyes (and tills) as hundreds of people poured in to see a vast foam-filled Peppa ham it up with her not-so-little-piglet brother George. Dozens of wide-eyed children were swung up onto shoulders as the vast crowd, billowing up the escalators to the upper level of the Mall, shouted out a count-down to see the pair of pigs appear.
Many kids had brought their own Peppa Pigs, were sporting Peppa Pig backpacks or waving their Peppa Pig magazines: it was a perfect parade of pink as, after the switch-on, the crowd settled in to the Mall, many queuing up to have their photo taken with the amiable, though mute, Princess of Pork.
What was so great for the shops was how many people stayed on, said Patricia Bench, Development Director of HammersmithLondon. The event kicked off at noon and there were still hundreds of shoppers and fans around three hours later. There was such a buzz.
