Best known from BBC2 show “Mary, Queen of Shops”, retail icon Mary Portas has singlehandedly revived many flagging retail businesses with her mixture of guile, good sense and gregarious personality. She has now shared her expertise to develop a unique series of retail master classes for independent retail stores. Delivered through the National Skills Academy for Retail’s skills shops, the Mary Portas guide to successful retailing gives a great insight into improving retail businesses.

Who should attend?
The programme was developed to meet the needs of independent owners and managers of retail businesses.

Eligibility criteria
To qualify for a free place on this workshop, your business must be located in or have a premises in the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. This includes social enterprises and community enterprises. There is a limit of two delegates from any one business. If you are not sure whether you qualify for a free place, please contact Grace Nelson and she will be happy to advise you further.

What will it cover?
This two hour master class taster session is designed to equip SMEs with the skills they need to see their business succeed. It will cover some of the course materials from the Entry Point Mary Portas Master class ‘My shop, my future’.
This will focus on creating a brand that articulates your vision, targeting the customers to whom you most appeal and producing an offer that says who you are and why you’re different.

It will include video clips from Mary Portas herself and some practical exercises for the delegates. We will look at what’s happening in the high streets and how the retail landscape has changed in recent years. The trainer will also touch on the other masterclasses from the Mary Portas programme to put everything into a larger perspective.
