Heavy snow predicted in Hammersmith

Gritters were working through the night and early this morning to prepare the streets of Hammersmith for the expected deluge of snow, although heavy blizzards are yet to hit west London.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council, which is responsible for clearing all the borough's roads except the A4 and A40, has stockpiled 430 tons of grit and has ordered another 300 tons to cope with the prolonged cold snap.
Heavy snow is predicted in London later this afternoon and more blizzards are expected throughout the week.
