HammersmithLondon Summer Festival

Londoners get a taste of the coast as Lyric Square is transformed into a pop-up seaside resort – The Urban Beach

In June 2010 we launched our new Summer programme of events, which is set to be fun, interactive and entertaining for all.

The Urban Beach in Lyric Square features an artificial beach complete with traditional seaside deckchairs, ice cream gazebos, and a 20 ft large screen to add to the carnival atmosphere

Throughout the months of June, July and August, local residents can take advantage of the newly revamped Hammersmith themed deck chairs and enjoy a host of entertainment ranging from musical performances, circus acts, live screenings, street performers and exclusive big screen film nights.

Live screenings of Wimbledon entertain visitors during their lunchtime, whilst giving people the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy the sunshine. Early evening and weekend screenings of a number of popular children’s films including Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” and the fun smash hit ‘Mamma Mia” are also expected to entertain young people in the summer evenings

Arun Sondhi, Executive Director of HammersmithLondon Commented “HammersmithLondon is keen to support the local business community and enhance the neighbourhood by providing entertainment throughout the Summer. The concept underpinning the Urban Beach is simple. We want the space surround Lyric Square to be a thriving and vibrant space for residents, visitors and local businesses. This is a perfect way to showcase our beautiful area and remind visitors that West London is a centre for creativity and enterprise.”

To mark the opening of this free summer festival, local musicians and string quartet sensation “Graffiti Classics” showcased their contemporary twist on classical music as they performed live in the heart of Lyric Square.

Other activities taking place in the Hammersmith Summer festival include an outdoor library in St Pauls Green, featuring children’s storytelling sessions, a number of classic board games and a relaxing reading area. Alongside this, in July, HammersmithLondon will also be launching an art exhibition at the Lyric, Hammersmith , which will feature local artwork together with weekly music nights at the popular HammersmithLondon Roof Garden..
