Free Saturday Walking Tours of Hammersmith for all Privilege Card Holders! 2011/2012

On the First Saturday of every month, why not get to know more about where you live? Escape your routine, get some fresh air and discover Hammersmith’s hidden gems by joining in our FREE GUIDED WALKS of Hammersmith!

The walks are lead by Blue Badge tourist guides and are designed to last for one hour so you can easily fit them into your other weekend plans.

The walks must leave on time. Please be punctual!

11am Hammersmith Broadway tube(nr the Trout Pub) to Hammersmith Bridge[/b]

A bridge not too far. Come and pay homage to Hammersmith's greatest icon - our wonderful iron bridge, blown up by the IRA in 1939 in an event some historians describe as the first hostile act of WWII. Meet outside Hammersmith Broadway tube near the Trout Pub at 11am. Teas and Coffee available afterwards at Hop Poles

11am Goldhawk tube to Brackenbury Village[/b]

From labourers’ cottages to media chic – explore Brackenbury Village, its charming streets, local shops and its connection with a gruesome murder. Find out more about Hammersmith industry past and present - from Innocent Smoothies to the business started by Mr. Wimpey. Meet outside Goldhawk Road tube at 11am.

11am Ravenscourt Park tube to see the Hammersmith Fireworks[/b]

Let's hear it for the original Guy Fawkes, a Yorkshire man who fancied himself as 'Guido' Fawkes. We circle the site of tonight's great Borough conflagration - the Ravenscourt Firework Display. Let's also hear it for that age-old symbol of England's liberty - the bonfire. Meet outside Ravenscourt Park tube at 11am.

Start your festivities with a special tour of the newly restored St. Paul’s church, then admire Christmas lights while you hear about what special seasonal events you can enjoy in Hammersmith. Meet outside Hammersmith Broadway tube near the Trout Pub at 11am.

Saturday, January 7th, 2012 FIRST WALK OF THE OLYMPIC YEAR
11am Hammersmith Broadway tube to River & Kelmscott House

Meet outside Tesco in the Broadway Centre: Visit one of the most beautiful stretches of the Thames, where Ratty of Wind in the Willows enjoyed rowing. Hammersmith’s arts and crafts history and the riverside home of William Morris, designer of wallpaper and crusading socialist. Not to mention the smallest bar in the world. Meet outside Hammersmith Broadway tube near Tesco's at 11am.

11am Putney tube to Hammersmith Bridge

Walk the river's edge, Putney Bridge to Hammersmith Bridge. En route we hear about George Best, Bishop Bonner 'The Burner', Lord Rodgers of Riverside, and we actually SEE Michael Jackson. Meet outside Putney Bridge tube at 11am.
