Emerald Incident
The BID security Team recently intervened in and prevented what could easily have been an incident on the scale of the Kodjo Yenga murder of 2007.
A 16th birthday party was being held at the Emerald Centre in Hammersmith Grove, mainly attended by males aged 15-20 from Shepherds Bush. It is speculated that males from both Hounslow and Croydon also were in attendance but uninvited. The BID PCSO on patrol at the time later witnessed approximately 25 males chasing 2 others down King Street at high speed, with the probable intention of causing harm. They saw the PCSO, stopped and quickly began to disperse back to the Emerald centre.
About half an hour later, a member of the public reported seeing a male running down King Street and throwing away a knife towards a bin at the bus stop outside TK Maxx. A large kitchen knife was recovered with a 10 inch blade. He male had obviously tried to get rid of it before he was caught.
A section 60 was put in place which gives police officers the immediate right to stop and search anyone in an area without needing a reason. This only occurs as a response to a serious incident and 15-20 other officers were soon dispatched to Hammersmith to assist. Later on 4 males were seen running into the Hammersmith tube. They were told to stop and took several swings at officers who subdued and arrested them.
Finally a mans trainer and a tissue were found near the Emerald with a significant amount of blood on them. It is speculated that a fight broke out and that the chase down King Street could have been the result. It is also speculated that had the BID PCSO and other officers not been on patrol that night, the recovered knife could well have been used to cause significant harm. HammersmithLondon would like to thank all the officers involved for their help in averting a major incident.
