Deep Cleaning and Chewing Gum Removal
As part of HammersmithLondons commitment to creating a cleaner and greener Hammersmith, over 8000 square metres of the Hammersmith BID area have been steam cleaned and scrubbed free of dirt and grease. Using professional deep cleaners from Gumclear, it is estimated that over 160,000 pieces of chewing gum have been removed from the Hammersmith streets so far and by the end of the project this number should increase to around 250,000. The cleaning crews use a prototype cleaning machine developed by Gumclear which features a revolutionary two boiler system that projects 180 degree steam at an angle onto the pavement to restore it to its original clean and fresh appearance.
Urban Surface Protector in Lyric Square
Along with the deep clean of the area, Urban Surface Protector has now been applied to Lyric Square, King Street and many other areas of the Hammersmith Town centre. USP is an inert polymer which permeates into the slabs of the pavement and fills up the capillaries of the stone. This has the effect of creating a surface which cannot be penetrated by oil, grease or other contaminants as there is nothing to sink into. The major advantage of this is that chewing gum does not adhere to the surface as the oil in the gum cannot stick. Having cleaned all the chewing gum off the Hammersmith streets, it will now be very easy to remove any more gum that sticks to the floor to keep Hammersmith a clean and attractive place to be.
