Bride and Groom to climb 120ft tower of church where they met. Saturday 24 September

Couple's daring feat – in full wedding gear – will be seen by 20,000 drivers as they climb above the A4 flyover

Jessamy, 25, an artist, said: “I like the idea of the church being turned inside out so people can see what goes on inside the building outside the building - like Brides and Grooms setting off on adventures together. The new building has big open doors and lots of glass to welcome the community in to all the brilliant support inside from parenting courses to debt counselling and employment charity SPEAR.”

She and Keir, 29, who left his job in management to train to be a vicar, met at the church – St Paul's C of E Church in Hammersmith, where he now works as associate pastor – two years ago. They were married in May.

When Jessamy decided they should do the climb in their wedding gear she had a choice – her traditional white wedding dress or the gold leather catsuit she wore as a going-away outfit.

I like a challenge and frankly the catsuit would have been too easy,” she said. “I just hope I don't get all my skirts tangled in the rope.”

The couple, who live in Hammersmith, hope the climb will raise a big chunk of the final £900,000 still needed for the £5.5 million community centre St Paul's is currently building at the back of the church.

This will provide much-needed space for the church's many community projects, such as a money advice centre and Spear, a charity praised by Boris Johnson for its success in preparing unemployed youngsters for work.

It will also mean the Sunday school classes for the church's 200 children can finally move out of the portacabins they have occupied for the last 10 years.

Around 20 other members of the congregation will also attempt the tower climb over the weekend of September 24/25.

Vicar Simon Downham said: “I think they're totally nuts. You wouldn't catch me doing it. But I'll be cheering them on from the safety of the ground.”

We wish the happy couple well on this daring feat.
