Whats On

The I LOVE BOOKS Club has flourished since the first session in August, it started initially out as part of our summer campaign to encourage reading in the borough. The book club is the first of its kind for the borough of Hammersmith and had been designed especially to encourage interaction between the Hammersmith business community.

Lead now by library facilitators Elin Jones and Rob Symmons, reading enthusiasts are invited to a 1 hour session in the Dartmouth Castle, 26 Glenthorne Road, Hammersmith, W6 0LS.

Book Clubbers first gathered at St. Paul's Green alongside the pop-up library and were invited to share their views on the summer's best selling novels.

In attendance was the Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, Cllr Adronie Alford who praised the event saying "the HammersmithLondon Book Club is an excellent idea and I hope the initiative is a success. In my mind, the reading of books is a lost art and this is why I am particularly impressed with the number of people who have come to share their passion for books. The event this afternoon is a wonderful opportunity for members of the wider Hammersmith community to interact with one another in a friendly and supportive environment".

Local resident Yasmine Pettigrew added, "it's great to see people discussing literature. Reading is such a solitary experience, so it's been great to hear other people's point of view".

Now the book club is a regular occasion, previously choosing Iain Pears' "Stone's Fall," Rachel Hore's "A Place of Secrets" and Barbara Kingsolver's "The Lacuna." and more recently "Any Human Heart" and "The Blackhouse". The meetings have been very enjoyable and received great feedback. The next session will be in Thursday 22 March 2012; and the title of the book is "The Paris Wife". For more details about this event, click here (please note this event is now fully subscribed). The following discussion thereafter will take place on Thursday 24 May (the book title is to be confirmed).

If you would like to be a part of the Book club, please contact HammersmithLondon to register and claim a free copy. Books will always be issued on a first come first served basis. Light Refreshments will be provided on the evening.

For all those who have attended sessions we would be very grateful if you fill out a feedback form and send it back to us.
